Project Design Brief for a Pilgrimage of Grace-themed heritage trail

Client: Pocklington and Wolds Gateway Partnership
Location: North Yorkshire
Value: £10,000
Date: 2010-11
With Pollen Studio

The Brief:

  • The dramatic Reformation story of the Pilgrimage of Grace has particular connections with an area around Market Weighton and Pocklington in the Yorkshire Wolds, including links to the charismatic Robert Aske, who led what became the most serious rebellion of Henry VIII’s reign.
  • PLB worked with the Partnership to produce a Project Design Brief that investigated the viability and potential for a themed heritage trail and associated activities based on the Pilgrimage. The Design Brief included recommendations for the partnership to take forward in exploring future partnership and funding opportunities, including applications to LEADER, the HLF and others.

Our Solutions:

  • The brief required an understanding and research of the local history of the area and its connections to the Pilgrimage. We undertook consultations and market research to test the potential audiences for the trail.
  • A potential walking route was scoped out between Warter and Pocklington and the facilities along the way were investigated. With the market and possible locations identified, we were also able to make costed media recommendations along with a package of additional activities and options.
