Last call for sustainability project 'Cream of the Crop'

Museums and heritage projects have just days left to enter the industry awards which will give national exposure to sustainability excellence, advises North Yorkshire-based heritage design consultancy PLB.

The annual M+H Awards 2013 recognise best practice within museums, galleries and heritage visitor attractions, with hundreds of entrants from across the UK bidding to win one of eleven prestigious titles. PLB, which sponsors the Sustainability Award, is urging applicants to get involved and get the recognition their sustainable projects deserve, before the deadline of Friday 8 February.

The Sustainability Award will be made to an outstanding environmentally sustainable project or exhibition which can evidence best practice in the approach to managing environmental impacts, considering energy efficiency, recycling and reuse, materials and ethical sourcing to achieve a quality visitor experience. It is one of the 11 categories in the M+H Awards which showcase and reward excellence in the heritage and culture sector and recognising the achievements of a wide range of projects.

Last year’s joint winners, The Garden Museum and National Museums Liverpool were the first to receive the PLB-sponsored M+H Award in Sustainability. Beatrice McDermott, who is currently taking part in Garden Museum’s Sustainability traineeship, says, “We were delighted to be awarded the Sustainability Award 2012; it was great for all of our hard work in becoming a sustainable museum to be recognised nationally.”

Says Sarah Oswald at PLB, “The Sustainability Award gives a national platform and recognition to environmentally sustainable projects or exhibitions. We are pleased to support the award for the second year as it is a key way to recognise and encourage those in the sector committed, like ourselves, to making heritage projects sustainable.”

Entry information can be found at Deadline for entries is Friday 8th February. The winner will be announced at the M+H Awards 2013 ceremony on Wednesday 15 May.
