Meet the Team: Russell Clark

In our ‘Meet the Team’ series, we’re introducing you to the talented individuals who make up the creative collective of PLB.

Next up meet Russell, our Project Manager. Russell is our key client liaison, ensuring smooth delivery and programme management with patience, flexibility and ease.

We caught up with Russell for a quick chat to learn more about what makes him tick.

1. What inspired you to work in the heritage and museum sector?

The 1984 Dock Strike. Long story short – I was told by my then boss if I was so interested in politics, I would be better off studying it. This led me to working with the Museum of London Docklands Project, looking at the history of Dock Labour Unions and collecting artefacts and oral histories. This now forms part of the collection of London Museum Docklands.

2. What do you love most about PLB?

The people I work with and the wide range and variety projects we work on.

3. Can you share a behind-the-scenes moment from a recent project that made you proud?

Talking to vets at RLC Museum about the DUKW display and both myself, and the museum team finding out what everything on the vehicle did!

4. If you could work on any heritage site or museum in the world, which one would it be and why?

Ultimo Powerhouse, Sydney. Cutting edge design, amazing collection and a brilliant location.

5. What’s a common misconception about what you do?

That the job is easy!

6. What advice would you give to someone looking to get into exhibition and interpretation design?

You need to be patient, approachable and be empathetic with the client. You also need to stick to timetable and budget, and encourage them to do the same.

7. Describe your job in three emojis!

😱🤬😄

8. What’s one object, artefact, or display that has left a lasting impression on you?

Putting a mammoth tusk on display in Windsor Museum. Who would have thought mammoths once roamed Berkshire.

9. If PLB had a company mascot, what would it be and why?

Harry Potter – we have a bit of magic in our designs!

Stay tuned for more team insights and a closer look at the people who make PLB what it is!
