Meet the Team: Susanne Mead

In our ‘Meet the Team’ series, we’re introducing you to the talented individuals who make up the creative collective of PLB.

Next up is Susanne, our Senior Graphic Designer. With over 20 years of experience, Susanne ensures our clients stand out and shine, helping them to captivate audiences with her exceptional creative design and visual storytelling skills.

We caught up with Susanne to ask her a few questions, and get to know her better.

1. What inspired you to work in the heritage and museum sector?

A love of all things heritage and the chance to bring history to life, helping to make it accessible for everyone.

2. What do you love most about PLB?

I’m always learning! There’s always something new on each project, expanding my creativity and knowledge.

3. Can you share a behind-the-scenes moment from a recent project that made you proud?

Being at the launch event (opened by Ray Mears) for Star Carr and seeing the first visitors engaging with the displays and their positive reactions.

4. If you could work on any heritage site or museum in the world, which one would it be and why?

It would probably have to be the North York Moors Railway for my love of steam trains (and Yorkshire!).

5. What’s a common misconception about what you do?

I sit colouring in pictures all day!

6. What advice would you give to someone looking to get into exhibition and interpretation design?

Visit museums and heritage sites – always be on the lookout for exciting new ways to engage the audience. Seek creative solutions in everyday situations.

7. Describe your job in three emojis!

8. What’s one object, artefact, or display that has left a lasting impression on you?

I’m fascinated by the Star Carr pendant. The artwork on this tiny piece is the earliest known Mesolithic art in Britain, around 11,000 years old!

9. If PLB had a company mascot, what would it be and why?

A friendly Diplodocus. Just because. Dinosaurs are ace!
