Shaping the Nation: Bringing the British Army’s Story to Life
PLB were engaged to lead the design and supervision of the Army at Home gallery, a striking 253-square-metre space on the 3rd floor of the National Army Museum (NAM). Our task? To create a vibrant, engaging exhibition that explores the British Army’s pivotal role in shaping the nation.
Comprehensive Design Expertise
We delivered a detailed design package that covered every aspect of the gallery, from display concepts and case layouts to precise mount specifications. Beyond the design phase, we supported the NAM team during the tender appointment process, ensuring the project stayed on track and on vision.
Seamlessly Integrated Innovation
The gallery features a newly designed visitor route, purpose-built setworks and refurbished display cases enhanced with cutting-edge constant humidity equipment (Miniclimas). The result is a seamless blend of heritage and modernity, ensuring the collection is preserved for future generations.
Exploring the Army’s Legacy
As part of NAM’s wider redevelopment programme, the Army at Home gallery benefits from PLB’s specialist expertise in creating dynamic and meaningful spaces. The exhibition examines the British Army’s role in defending the nation and its profound influence on the UK’s history, identity and landscape.
History That Resonates
By connecting the past with the present, the Army at Home gallery invites visitors to discover how the British Army’s legacy continues to shape the world around us today.
PLB’s design for the Army at Home Gallery was imaginative, practical and engaging. It was a joy to work with PLB on this important permanent gallery, which has been extremely well received by our visitors.
