Honouring a Site of Global Technological Breakthrough
PLB worked with the Bawdsey Radar Trust to design and deliver a compelling new exhibition for the historic Transmitter Block at Bawdsey Radar, the world’s first operational radar station and the birthplace of radar technology that changed the course of WWII.
Preserving Heritage with Local Passion
This evocative site, situated on the Suffolk coast, is maintained by a dedicated team of volunteers. PLB was commissioned to develop a suite of interpretive and graphic design solutions, made possible through round 2 funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF). The project brought new life to both the building’s interior and its immediate external setting.
Telling the Story of Radar and Community
The exhibition explores the pioneering development of radar and the crucial role Bawdsey played in this innovation. Through immersive storytelling, the displays reveal the lives of the people who worked on site, the impact of radar on the local community and the continuing legacy of this ground-breaking technology.
