Home Farm, Temple Newsam – Connecting Visitors to Agricultural Heritage
Home Farm, part of Leeds’ historic Temple Newsam Estate, is a working rare breeds farm and popular visitor attraction. PLB was commissioned to create a new interpretation scheme to enhance the visitor experience, broaden the farm’s appeal and increase revenue.
The project aimed to move beyond the immediate charm of the animals by deepening visitors’ connections to the farm’s historically significant buildings and collections, which reflect the area’s rich agricultural and social history.

A balanced blend of education and entertainment
Highlights of the new scheme include:
- Immersive audio-visual elements and hands-on interactives.
- Engaging storytelling brought to life through farm characters and a dedicated trail.
- Traditional graphics that narrate Home Farm’s unique history.
The result is a balanced blend of education and entertainment, making Home Farm an engaging destination for families, schools and heritage enthusiasts. This innovative approach ensures the site’s long-term sustainability while celebrating its unique heritage.
