St Barbe Museum and Art Gallery
Sharing a rich maritime history
PLB contributed to a successful HLF funding application for the museum, housed in a former schoolhouse in Lymington. We then undertook a full redesign and delivery contract designed to create a higher profile for St Barbe, increase visitor numbers and therefore secure the long term future of the museum. After reopening in August 2017, the museum reported over 15,000 visitors in the first two months.
Starting outside with the story of the building, grounds and museum founders our interpretation takes the visitor on a journey from the coast to the forest exploring the rich maritime heritage, from smugglers to boatbuilders, and life in Lymington and surrounding areas right up to the present day.
